If you set up a Google Business Profile years ago and never touched it again, this is the most important thing you will read this week.

The way people find local businesses has changed, and the profile you forgot about is now doing more work than you realise, for you or against you.

Here is what changed. When someone looks for a business like yours on Google Maps or in search, Google no longer just matches keywords. People now ask Google full questions, in plain language, like find me a caterer for a small wedding or a good barber open late near me.

Google reads your profile to decide whether you are the right answer. Your category, your services, your description, your photos, your reviews. All of it feeds the answer Google gives.

Now here is the part that should get your attention. If your profile is incomplete, Google does not leave it blank. It fills in the gaps itself, pulling from your website and other sources around the web. If your information is thin or out of date, the version of your business that shows up may be wrong. You are being described to potential customers by a machine working with old scraps, instead of by you.

Think about how many people find businesses this way now. They are not asking friends. They are opening Maps and typing what they need. If your profile is stale, you are invisible to them, and the person down the road with a complete, active profile gets the call that could have been yours.

The good news is this is fixable, often in under an hour, and you do not need a website, a following, or to show your face. You just need to claim your profile and fill it in properly.

Here is the simple starting list.

  1. Confirm your business name, address, and phone number are correct, and make sure they match everywhere else you appear online, because inconsistency confuses the systems that surface you.

2. Choose the most accurate primary category, then add every relevant secondary one. Write a clear description of what you do and who you serve. Add your real services. Upload real, current photos, not stock images. And make sure your hours are right, including holidays.

One more thing that matters more than it used to. Google now favours profiles that stay active over ones that were set up once and left. A profile that has not been touched in months starts to look stale to the system. So this is not a one-time fix. It is a small habit. A fresh photo, an updated service, a reply to a review.

Fixing this one thing can quietly change how many people find you, without spending a dollar on ads and without ever being on camera. It is one of the highest-value hours a small business owner can spend right now.

And this is exactly the kind of shift we go deep on at Passion to Profit Using AI, my free two night summit on the 25th and 26th of July. If your business has stalled, or never quite got off the ground, this is where you learn to use AI to bring it to life and make it pay. Your Google Business Profile is one small lever. There are many more, and I will show you how to pull them. Reserve your free seat and I will see you in the room.
